SKATE & MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA FOR ANNUAL K.P.E.C SKATE COMP

Gisborne is the place to skate and party this New Year, with over $5000 in cash prizes up for the taking at the 9th annual “Kick Push East Coast” Skate Comp on December 28.

This year Kingpin is again collaborating with BW Campgrounds to take the comp to the next level, with a $1000 Vert jam session plus the ultimate after party at BW Campgrounds, featuring live performances by Katchafire, Six60, Rhombus & Helena confirmed to bring the noise.

All competitors and sponsors aged-18 and over will get free VIP entry to the after party.

New to this years event will be a series of best trick jam sessions held on a range of obstacles from manual/grind boxes to massive rails pushing riders to throw down there hottest moves for there share of $1500 in cash prizes.

Also there will be on site entertainment by local DJ-MC Duo Robba & Reyna!!

Loads of spot prizes will be given out throughout the day, including Skateboards, clothing & footwear, plus tickets to and BW Campground gigs for the days that follow.

Kingpin is calling on riders from all over the NZ and abroad to make the mission to sunny Gisborne to help make this one of the biggest and best skate events ever seen in Aotearoa.

Keeping on the music tip BW will have 3 stages this year -

Main stage - In the Sound Shell adjacent to the camps and playing host to all the major artists each night. Including 2 huge shows on the 27th and 28th and R&V after parties on the 29th and 30th.

Beach stage - Set right on the beach opposite our largest camp (Watson). We will be cranking out the beats during the day light hours from here, bringing the beach to life with all day dance parties on the sand.

Lagoon stage - The Sound Shell has been expanded this year and will feature a second stage that will play host to a number of upcoming and more well known NZ electronic artists

Band Camp

Nestled in amongst the pines, backing onto the local golf course, 700m away from Awapuni/Watson and the beach, Band Camp is the pefect place to chill out, away from the hussle and bustle of the main camps.

Band Camp campers still have access to the other BW camps to visit friends and to all the shows at the Sound Shell.

The camp is set on the grounds of the Te Kuri a Tuatai Marae and the camp project is used as a means to raise funds in order to rebuild the Marae that was burnt down 50 years ago. BW employs members of the Marae to perform most of the opperating functions of the camp and they help to provide a friendly and safe atmosphere for their guests.

RHYTHM & VINES ANNOUNCE SECOND OF THREE PROGRAMME LINE-UPS

RHYTHM & VINES are pleased to announce the second of three outstanding programme installments for 2009. These additions to the first stellar line-up combine international heavy-weights and local legends which enhance the diverse and exciting programme.

Fame and success is something which few artists of recent times have enjoyed quite to the same level as MOBY, who has garnered mass critical acclaim and sold millions of albums worldwide. Headlining major festivals, and touring with everyone from Aphex Twin to Red Hot Chilli Peppers in previous years, MOBY is set to return to New Zealand to play RHYTHM & VINES for the first time since the release of his new album Wait For Me.

UK chart toppers EDITORS hit RHYTHM & VINES on the back of the release of new album In This Light And On This Evening available in October. The Mercury Prize-nominated group have affirmed themselves as one of the most vital guitar bands of recent times, and their live show is not to be missed.

Bootlegging kings 2MANYDJs (LIVE) - the alter egos of Belgian groove-gurus Stephen and David Dewaele from Soulwax –are set to perform a cracking LIVE set this year at R&V. Joining them in the line-up from Australia on the dance tip will be AJAX (Sweat It Out), known for mixing it up in style, plus Modular’s BANG GANG (Doom & Hoodrat) and DJ EMERSON TODD.

Making their debut New Zealand performance are UK trio FUTURE OF THE LEFT, who have won over an army of fans with albums Curses and the recently released Travels With Myself And Another. FUTURE OF THE LEFT throw down the gauntlet for what rock music should sound like, and their music is melodically brutal and uncompromising in its lyrical bite.

New York band WHITE RABBITS also hit NZ for the first time, yet are no strangers to the international festival circuit. With previous stints at Lollapalooza and Glastonbury, WHITE RABBITS will bring their dark pop essence to RHYTHM & VINES this year.

Lets get this party started!!

Finally its here... the final release of headline acts taking the stage at the JIM BEAM Sound Shell at BW for some pre and post Rhythm and Vines gigs!!

Flying in from Wellington with killer tunes & visuals to rock the party, once again, are Kiwi favourites Rhombus.

With the release of their 3rd self-titled album late last year to glowing reviews, Rhombus are gearing up to throw down the fresh cuts for BW '09!

Rhombus will bring their iconic dub & bass sound to BW '09, featuring the soulful vocal styles of Lisa Tomlins & MC Antsman, along with the dub stylings of Simon Rycroft, Thomas Voyce, Koa Williams, plus Peter Hill on Guitar and guest.

With numerous tours of New Zealand, Japan and Australia, this well-oiled machine is set to ignite the camping dancefloor with a mixture of brand new tunes, old favourites, and a special visual show, all designed to power-up the party!

Recently voted number 5 DJ act in Australia and number 2 in Queensland, The Stafford Brothers (of Ministry of Sound fame) are coming back to their native NZ to lay it down for y'all. As we said, originally from NZ, this electro house duo have been kicking it across the ditch, making some serious waves as sell out headliners in every state around the country. But the boys haven't just stopped with Australia. Multiple tours to Ibiza and main room club sets in venues across Miami, Las Vegas, London, Manchester, Dubai and Spain's Malaga and Marbella have meant the Stafford sound has already successfully infiltrated overseas markets.

Joining the Staffords will be Timmy Trumpet. Bascially Timmy has a trumpet, through which air is blown and sound comes out whilst electro house music is played in the background. If you didn't catch him at BW last year you may have seen him across the ditch at GOOD VIBRATIONS, SUMMAFIELDAYZE or FUTURE MUSIC Festivals, wearing a wife beater singlet, a pair of thongs and a 2003 haircut. Having multiple WORLD WIDE tours under his horn, including performances at IBIZA’S PACHA (voted No.2 best club in the world, Dance Music Awards 04/05) and LONDON’S MINISTRY OF SOUND (No.3), Timmy has stamped his name as arguably one of Australia’s best DJ side kicks.

Fast becoming Australia's number 1 female DJ is Helena, a British born music junkie who began organising raves, throwing parties, DJ’ing and promoting throughout her turbulent school years. Her energetic, upfront, “no holds barred” style; makes electro, tech, fidget, house, tribal and techno melt into one. Helena’s presence on stage is revered by all including Australia’s biggest dance act - The Potbelleez. “She has a talent that has to be seen to be believed.” It's really no wonder the offers are coming thick and fast for this sassy Bristolian misfit.

His commitment and passion for the music was instrumental in advocating Dan Aux as one of the most talented of Australia's young DJs. Now based in Auckland, New Zealand. Closely tied to Sydney dance label Vacation records as one half of Shopliftas, Dan's time is split between music production & remixes aswell as his weekly radio show on George FM. you see Dan Auxbehind the decks you know there is some kind of magic happening. RHYTHM & VINES are pleased to announce the exciting third instalment of artists set to complement a high calibre international and local programme for 2009. The following acts will be joining over 50 stellar acts already announced who are set to ignite the three-day festival from 28 December – 31 December.

Australian multi-platinum recording artists JOHN BUTLER TRIO are no stranger to the touring circuit and their smooth roots, blues and rock-based grooves have made them a firm favourite for many New Zealanders. Led by guitarist and vocalist John Butler, the trio have previously played iconic festivals such as Fuji Rock Festival, Glastonbury, Coachella and Lollapalooza to rave reviews. JOHN BUTLER TRIO are set to impress with their first ever appearance at RHYTHM & VINES this year, off the back of a brand new single from a forthcoming album due out next year.

Encompassing dub, ragga, funk and hip hop, Mercury Prize nominated ROOTS MANUVA (aka Rodney Smith) will be bringing his lyrical wonderment and silly genius all the way from South London to RHYTHM & VINES this year. ROOTS MANUVA has led the way for other UK artists such as The Streets and Dizzee Rascal, and his influence has even stretched to bands such as The Arctic Monkeys, who are on record as saying that ROOTS MANUVA’s 2001 album ‘Run Come Save Me’ was almost all they listened to whilst recording their debut album. ROOTS MANUVA’s recent album ‘Slime & Reason’ possesses the kind of of freewheeling, reggae-drenched tunes that make it the perfect sound for summer, and RHYTHM & VINES 2009.

Scottish band BIFFY CLYRO has been critically acclaimed by international media and fans alike, and will make their New Zealand debut at RHYTHM & VINES. United by a love of underground, experimental rock and post-hardcore bands, BIFFY CLYRO have honed their own unique sound, from a mind boggling mix of off-kilter tempos, itchy, unpredictable guitars, soulful choruses and feral screams, to a rich and complex take on rock anthems. Their 2007 album ‘Puzzle’ shot them to mainstream success, leading BIFFY CLYRO to play Wembley Stadium with Muse, headlining the John Peel Stage at Glastonbury and gigging with The Rolling Stones. Emerging from the mist and shadows of the blogosphere, few producers or DJ's have managed to simultaneously create insane amounts of both hype and frustration as UK’s FAKE BLOOD - an alias used by DJ Touche, also half of The Black Ghosts. Meticulously constructed releases have popped many an electro-diehard's blood vessels making FAKE BLOOD one of the most enigmatic acts of recent times. Minimal and Tech house DJ JOEL ARMSTRONG will be making his way to Gisborne this year from his home base of Vancouver, Canada. This arena will be one of the key focal points of BW throughout the entire week of the festival. The zone is located on the beautiful town beach, directly opposite BW's largest camp (Watson) and last year hosted 1000's of people daily.

Picture an area abuzz with activity. There is music, sun, surf, sand, dancing, sports, sunbathing, swimming, surfing, bikinis, board shorts, cabana huts.....ice cold Pump for sale!!!!

Beach Stage

The area features a stage hosting a wide selection of DJ talent, crossing over a multitude of musical genres. The music sets the tone for the area as one of the prime places to hang out in Gisborne over the week. The beauty of this zone is that it is not exclusive to campers and is an area where general public come to mingle with their friends staying at BW.

Sports Arena

We are placing a huge emphasis on beach sports this year with:

Volley Ball

Soccer

Touch rugby

Frisbee

Tug of war

Sand Castle building

And more

Campers will be able to enter daily competitions in these activities or just enjoy casually, out side of competition hours.

Cabanas

The area will feature a series of tropical style cabana huts, constructed from driftwood and palm trees. These will be spread out along the zone and will act as shade and chill out zones away from the powerful Gissy summer sun!!!

A central cabana hut will be selling ice cold drinks to the thirsty beach goers throughout the day light hours to insure everyone stays refreshed and on their game.

Tow-at Surf Comp

On the morning of the 28th the water area within the zone will play host to NZ's only Tow-At Competition. The comp is an invitation-only one-day event with 12 of the countries hottest surfers competing for the big prize.

The Tow-At is a crowd favourite with spectators privy to phat punts and mad gaffs galore. Utilizing Jet Ski's, competitors will be sling-shot into the waves at speed enabling them to use waves as ramps and attempting and landing tricks not possible normally.

The use of the ski's works not only to the benefit of the surfers but also the spectators who are treated to crazy ass non-stop entertainment in an easy to understand way of doing things. None of this boring "5 turns to the beach" kinda normal contest surfing jazz.

Last year this was the first surfing tow-at event in NZ ever.... we're making history right here! It's a high-energy, fast-paced contest with mad tricks going down like no contest before it on this countries shores!! One not to be missed!

Back in the day was where it all came together for Dan. The hundreds of partys and events, the guest mixes on Triple J's Mix Up & The Club. His weekly editorials and columns in Sydney Streetpress Brag & Revolver and Newcastle's U-turn. His commitment and passion for the music was instrumental in advocating Dan as one of the most talented of Australia's young DJs. Now based in Auckland, New Zealand. Closely tied to Sydney dance label Vacation records as one half of Shopliftas, Dan's time is split between music production & remixes aswell as his weekly radio show on George FM.

THE ARC (Paydirt, Scracth 22 and Legal Money Mike) began running a series of parties in the old Silo theatre to fill a gap in Auckland. State Of Mind (Live)

Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, State of Mind are the duo of Stu Maxwell and Patrick Hawkins. Bang Bang Eche was never going to let being from New Zealand's South Island impede their success. From the very beginning the group of youngsters established themselves around a hunger for touring. Their ferocious approach towards the live show quickly led them across the globe.

Loosely translated, Batucada means percussive samba jam. Throw in two guitars, bass, keyboard, a slick horn section and one of the Pacific's finest MCs, and you have Batucada Sound Machine. The 10 piece group has evolved from the impromptu "batucada" sessions back in 2003 to become one of NZ's most sought after acts. Their tasty concoction of Brazilian, Cuban and afro-beat rhythms is given a hip hop front courtesy of MC Hazaduz (Che Fu & the Krates) . This kingpin of the rising local hip hop scene lays solid rhymes over the massive samba-reggae percussion while the talented band adds rich pacific soul, reggae and funk flavours.

This is the biggest year ever for R&V and BW with both on the verge of selling out!!! sooooo due to demand BW is having to increase capacity. BW and R&V are relaunching "Schools" campground.

Set on the grounds of a local primary school, this is the prime location for those of you a bit longer in the tooth that want a little more peace and quiet. Still just a minute walk from the beach and just across the road from Churchill, at Schools you get the best of both worlds.

You have access to the other camps and all the entertainment but you get to roll back to a more chilled environment when you've had enough!! Close to the beach, town, R&V bus routes and the other BW camps for all the shananagans, PERFECT!!!

School is exclusive to R&V ticket holders only. You must either purchase a Schools/R&V package or present your R&V ticket upon check-in to the camp to gain entry.

BW CAMP RULES

For your comfort and the health and safety of all campers and staff, BW Camping Festival have the established the following camp rules.

Out of respect for each other we ask that you comply with the following…

· NO cooking on site or naked flames.

· NO drinking Paraphernalia (funnels, scrumpy hands).

· NO straight spirits.

· No Items are to enter site that may pose a fire risk.

· NO Items that are deemed a health or safety risk by staff.

· NO illegal substances - any sale of illegal items or substances will be reported to authorities.

· NO Glass on site at anytime.

Items that may cause injury or pose a hazard to campers health and safety are forbidden.

This is an R18 site, no access without appropriate accreditation.

BW Camping Grounds Ltd asks that you respect the rules, staff and fellow campers. Acts of verbal or physical abuse towards staff or fellow campers will not be tolerated.

Breaches of these rules may result in eviction and possible arrest without notice or refund.

Conditions of Entry

By entering the campsite, all persons agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions.

BW Camping Grounds Ltd and R&V reserve the right to refuse entry to any individual without having to give cause or reason.

All persons must conduct themselves in a proper and reasonable manner and in accordance with BW Camping and R&V health and safety policy. Antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated.

BW Camping Grounds Ltd and R&V reserve the right to;

· 1. Remove any person from BW/R&V Camp sites is reserved if the person’s behaviour is considered a danger to themselves or others.

· 2. To search any individual equipment or property or persons when entering BW or R&V Campsites or whilst on BW/R&V Camping grounds is reserved.

· 3. To address high levels of intoxication firstly by communication and if necessary, enforcement, is reserved by BW/R&V camping in accordance with our Health and Safety policy.

· 4. To evict any camper without notice or refund in accordance with The Tress-pass Act (1980).

· 5. The right to record any and all activities occurring on BW/R&V Camping property in accordance with the Privacy Act (1993).

All campers agree to follow any legal direction given from any member of the BW Camping R&V staff that relates to the health and safety of an individual or collective group.
