About BW
BW CAMPGROUNDS, formally known as Baywatch Campgrounds (had to change the name as the Hoff wasn't digging it) was established on the sunny shores of Gisborne, East Coast, Aotearoa in the early summer of 2004.
BW CAMPGROUNDS was born to help host the thousands of visitors venturing to the district for the Rhythm and Vines New Years Eve festival which just happens to be easily the dopest party of the year.
BW began simply as 1 campground with a bit of a spin but has now grown into something much more than that. BW operates 5 camps now all within walking distance of each other and hosts over 13,500 people each season!! Also added in 2007 was the Jim Beam Sound Shell, an amphitheatre concert venue right next door, which plays host to BW's gangster music line up and other events, such as the Amazon Bikini Jam.
BW encompasses everything that is a kiwi summer. First of all you have the epic road trip, then the great NZ music, surf, sunshine, beautiful beaches, camping, good company and lets not forget epic parties!!!!! This is what a NZ summer time is all about! Being the first city in the entire world to see the sunrise everyday, Gisborne has always been a special and popular place to welcome in the new-year. However, due to the massive success of both Rhythm and Vines and BW, Gisborne has completely 'blown up' as a New Years destination. The number of young visitors (18-30yrs) to the district has increased exponentially in recent years, resulting in Gisborne firmly holding pole position as the premium place in NZ to celebrate the New Year.
Your days at BW can be spent laxing in the sun on one of Gissy's many beautiful beaches, surfing at any of the many regions famous breaks, enjoying a day trip down to Morere Hot Springs or up to the famous natural rock slide at Rere. You may wish to just kick back in the camp listening to the tunes banging out all day, playing some touch or volleyball before later on checking out the Amazon Bikini Jam.
Come night time you can chill out with friends around your campsite over a few drinks before heading over to the Jim Beam Sound Shell to check out all the entertainment on offer, free for campers.
So come and enjoy the sunshine, beautiful beaches, restaurants, bars, friendly people, good music and all else that Gisborne has to offer. We would love to have you!!!!!
