Led by the vocals of Barnaby Weir and Daniel Weetman, at their core THE BLACK SEEDS produce a boundary-crossing fusion of dub, funk, afrobeat and soul, mixed with a vintage reggae base. The 8-piece Wellington band that have carved out their reputation on the back of two double-platinum selling albums, and a masterful live show regarded as one of the finest in New Zealand.

The Potbelleez

From further afield, THE POTBELLEEZ (Aus) stand as unquestionably one of Australia’s most in-demand acts. In 2007 and 2008 alone, they played over 300 gigs, with Dave and Jonny displaying breathtaking skills over four CDJS, two mixers and two FX units, while Blue and Kidron weave their magic up front. THE POTBELLEEZ are definitely one of hottest damn dance acts on the planet right now, and are bringing their infectious grooves to the BW campers of Gisborne this summer.

Katchafire

Reggae is one of the bloodlines of New Zealand music - which accounts for the extraordinary success of Hamilton’s KATCHFIRE who will be performing this year at BW. Their astonishing debut album, the prophetically named ‘Revival’, went double platinum and included kiwi favourites such as ‘Giddy Up’ and ‘Who You With’. Two further albums and countless shows later, KATCHAFIRE remain unique within New Zealand music.

The Stafford Brothers (AUS) - Ministry of Sound

Originally from NZ, this electro house duo have been kicking it across the ditch, making some serious waves as sell out headliners in every state around the country. The boys are regulars on the Aussie festival circuit and get plenty of radio air time as the Staffords' own productions and remixes peak at the top end of the club and dance charts and are hot request favourites.

Proud Kiwi's but residing on the Goldy, Matt and Chris Stafford have been steadily rising to the top of Australia's elite DJ forces since 1999, the year the brothers decided to shelve their solo DJing and pair up fulltime. Both standout DJs, Chris is an old hat at producing and a natural lyricist on the mic, while Matt is known for his
ead guitar solos over sets and possesses business acumen to boot. All this adds up to the blood brothers combining as a powerful force in both the production and DJ realms and whether they'll admit it or not, as one of the main drivers of the Australian dance music scene.

The Australian nationwide fame of the Stafford Brothers' seems to know no limit. The brothers soared from a number 27 ranking in the Technics inthemix Australian Top 50 in 2005, to number six in 2007, to last year being ranked as the number one DJs in Queensland and number two in the country. With both boys possessing a natural drive to always reach the top of whatever they set their minds to, it shouldn't be long until the boys are claiming pole position.

After last year's signing to international dance identity Ministry of Sound, the Stafford Brothers have just wrapped the Electro House Sessions tour to promote the Ministry CD they mixed; a CD that has since gone Gold and was sitting pretty at number one in the country for three weeks running.

But it is not only Australian crowds who lap up the big-room, upfront electro house of the Stafford Brothers. Tours of the UK and the USA are confirmed for early 2010. It certainly isn't the first dose of Stafford fever the world has received. Multiple tours to Ibiza and main room club sets in venues across Miami, Las Vegas, London, Manchester, Dubai and Spain's Malaga and Marbella have meant the Stafford sound has already successfully infiltrated overseas markets.

Sell-out headliners, CD mixers, chart toppers, music makers and players, sought-after remixers, Aussie exports, musicians, DJs, party boys, fashion designers (did we mention they design their own nationwide clothing range, 5:am clothing?), international globetrotters and among the top three DJs in the Australia.

Timmy Trumpet (AUS)

Timmy Trumpet has a trumpet, through which air is blown and sound comes out whilst electro house music is played in the background. If you didn’t see him at GOOD VIBRATIONS, SUMMAFIELDAYZE or FUTURE MUSIC Festivals, you will have probably seen him at some random nightclub wearing a wife beater singlet, a pair of thongs and a 2003 haircut.

Having multiple WORLD WIDE tours under his horn, including performances at IBIZA’S PACHA (voted No.2 best club in the world, Dance Music Awards 04/05) and LONDON’S MINISTRY OF SOUND (No.3), Timmy has stamped his name as arguably one of Australia’s best DJ side kicks. This wasn’t enough - He took his electro symphony a step further by becoming the worlds first DJ & TRUMPET COMBINED ARTIST which is creating even more hype and landed him residencies at clubs such as Soho (Sydney), Platinum (Gold Coast), Monastery (Brisbane), Metropolis (Perth), Discovery (Darwin) as well as Opera, Cargo and Cabana bars. In fact, in just under a year of DJing he has already made the ITM TOP 50 DJ’S, PLACING No. 37 IN AUSTRALIA!

Supporting and playing alongside acts like ERIC MORILLO, KASKADE, The Stafford Brothers, Potbelleez and Sneaky Sound System he has become somewhat of a drifter in this industry, yet to conform to the group sound system ideology. Instead he has focused all his energy on adapting to a variety of DJ’s and music, and generally dispersing himself around with his dance floor whore wireless microphone.

2010 is set to be an even bigger year for Timmy. He has already had overseas interest from the likes of CLUB PARADISE in MYKONOS and SPACE in IBIZA where he is booked to play this year! He plans to kick back on home turf for most of the year to produce music for some of the house scenes biggest labels. Whilst he is already featured on various HED KANDI compilation’s including ATFC’s single “New Day,” he remains the No.1 accessory for any live DJ outfit!!

Concord Dawn

Tagged ‘The Pioneers of Drum & Bass’ CONCORD DAWN have been making waves in the world of electronic music for many years now and have earnt a fearsome reputation for their live performance with extensive touring in NZ, Asia, America, Europe, Canada and Australia. The NZ born duo, Matt Harvey (aka Matty C) and Evan Short (aka Kiljoy), have also featured at almost all of the major dance festivals in New Zealand and will be well equipped to bring the noise to BW.

Tommy Trash (Ministry of Sound - AUS)

Tommy Trash is one of the newest prodigies to the Australian dance scene. In just 18 months his original electronic compositions can already claim peak numbers of #2, #3 and #5 on the ARIA Club Chart plus a top 10 Beatport record all of which feature spots on the Ministry of Sound Annual 2007, Pacha 2007 Annual, and Ministry of Sound Sessions 4, 5 and 6 compilations. And that’s not even mentioning his internationally acclaimed remixes. Tommy may have hung about the scene as a professional musician for the last 10 years but this humble musician/keys player/songwriter/producer/DJ has well and truly made his mark on the dance world. And this is only the beginning ………

Pay close attention!” cries Dave Lee of Gatecrasher. “Helena is a fast rising superstar.”

Perhaps a mis-spent youth, this British born music junkie was organising raves, throwing parties, DJ’ing and promoting throughout her turbulent school years.  By the ripe age of 25, not only had she run amuck in Ibiza, working for MTV, Manumission, Eden and Pacha; she also managed and promoted the UK Superclub Sundissential for 8 years. This meant entertaining over 55,000 of the craziest cats in the UK, as well as being involved in staging Europe’s major festivals working alongside dance music heavyweights Gatecrasher and Godskitchen.

In 2003 Helena turned her hand to DJing and since then has been “one to watch” so says DJ Mag’s -world top 20 - Eddie Halliwell. She has played across three continents at world class clubs and events like Gatecrasher Summer Sound System (UK), Ministry of Sound (SIN), Sensation (AUS), Pacha (UK), Space (Ibiza), Gatecrasher (UK), Funkissential (UK), Hed Kandi, as well as Australian institutions like Chinese Laundry, Platinum, Limelite, Family, the list goes on…

Currently based in her second home, Sydney, Australia, she’s got a clear ambition to be the queen of clubs Down Under. “I am totally focused on the number one female DJ crown. I won’t stop til I claim my throne!” she recently professed to Australia’s biggest dance site, In The Mix.

Seems Helena’s not alone in her quest… Industry leaders Pioneer Pro DJ have named her as the new face of “She DJ”, cementing her in the psyche of all aspiring females and putting her in the company of the world’s best artists. She is also officially sponsored by Religion, Buddhist Punk and House Of The Gods; the unique youth fashion brands bringing forward the sexy chic of the twenty first century, embracing beauty with power and pure rock star.

But 2009 is all about the production... The first release is due to hit the WMC in a BIG way. A massive remix of the old Subliminal tune “Coracao” which is already causing quite a stir with DJs and clubbers alike. More tracks to come include remixes for bassline bad boy Micky Slim on Bomb Squad, her own originals and as well as work with an array of vocalists and MCs.

Her energetic, upfront, “no holds barred” style; makes electro, tech, fidget, house, tribal and techno melt into one. Helena’s presence on stage is revered by all including Australia’s biggest dance act - The Potbelleez. “She has a talent that has to be seen to be believed.” It's really no wonder the offers are coming thick and fast for this sassy Bristolian misfit.

Dan Aux - Shopliftas/Way Crazies

Back in the day was where it all came together for Dan. The hundreds of partys and events, the guest mixes on Triple J's Mix Up & The Club. His weekly editorials and columns in Sydney Streetpress Brag & Revolver and Newcastle's U-turn. His commitment and passion for the music was instrumental in advocating Dan as one of the most talented of Australia's young DJs. Now based in Auckland, New Zealand. Closely tied to Sydney dance label Vacation records as one half of Shopliftas, Dan's time is split between music production & remixes aswell as his weekly radio show on George FM.

When you see Dan Aux behind the decks you know there is some kind of magic happening. You can see the experience supporting artists - Krafty Kuts, Z-Trip, Plump DJs, Freq Nasty, Aquasky, Ltj Bukem, Kid Kenobi, Mylo, Stanton Warriors, Shapeshifter, Kosheen, Pendulum. (The list goes on...) All have been conducive in shaping not only the music Dan plays but the way in which it is presented, in a genre defying fenzy of dexterity and flair. An accomplished scratch DJ and an internationally accliamed producer, Dan can easily lay claim to being the ultimate DJ package when it comes to getting the party started and keeping it going all night long.

Thirtyeightforty

Take a couple of cats from the sun and wave drenched most eastern tip of Aotearoa (thats NZ bro), slip them some decks and a rig and bodies will jack, no doubt. While rolling over several genres from down beat to hip-hop to electro jams the boys like most to keep the dance floor bumping with their fusion of "good" house flavours on the deep, funky and jacking tip.

Playing and promoting solo and as a duo the boys have been building and rocking festivals and club shows all over the shop for the past 10 years with a long list of DJ greats from NZ and around the globe.

In short the boys love what they do...and thats playing beats to get ya moving.....
